Five Skies · Privacy Policy

Five Skies, the prayer times app for iPhone and iPad ("Five Skies", "the app"), is owned and operated by Emerge Labs LLC, 2108 N St Ste N, Sacramento, CA 95816, United States ("we", "us").
This policy explains what the app uses, where it goes, and the choices you have.
The short version
- The app has no accounts, no sign-up and no ads, and we run no servers that it talks to.
- The app includes Meta's SDK so we can tell whether our ads on Facebook and Instagram bring people to Five Skies. It tells Meta when the app is installed and opened and when a purchase is made, with basic device details. It never sends your location, prayers, reminders or anything else you do in the app, and the app doesn't ask to track you.
- Your prayer times, Qibla, prayer log, fasts, reminders and settings are worked out and kept on your device.
- If you allow location, your coordinates go to Apple's map services to name your city and, when you open Nearby Mosques, to find mosques near you. They go nowhere else.
- Purchases go through Apple. We never see your payment details or your Apple ID.
Location
When you allow location access, the app uses your position to:
- Calculate prayer times and the Qibla. This happens entirely on your device.
- Name your city. The app asks Apple's geocoding service for the name of the place at your coordinates, so it can show "San Francisco" rather than numbers.
- Find mosques near you. Only when you open Nearby Mosques, the app searches Apple Maps for mosques around your location and shows them on a map. Tapping Directions opens Apple Maps.
These requests go from your device to Apple and are covered by Apple's Privacy Policy. We don't receive them.
You can say no to location, or turn it off at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Five Skies. Without it, the app keeps using the last place it knew, and prayer times may not match where you are.
What stays on your device
The app saves these on your iPhone or iPad only:
- the prayers you mark in Prayer Tracker, and your streak;
- the fasts and Taraweeh nights you tick in Ramadan;
- your reminders, alert choices and settings (calculation method, Asr rule, adhan or chime, sounds, the mosque you chose);
- where you stopped reading the Quran;
- your last known place, so times are ready when you open the app.
A small copy of your place and settings is shared with the app's own widgets and Live Activity through a private App Group on the same device, so they can show the next prayer. None of this is sent to us. It's included in your normal iPhone or iPad backup (iCloud or computer) if you back up your device, and deleting the app deletes it.
Notifications
Prayer alerts, the adhan, reminders and Islamic day alerts are local notifications, scheduled on your device. Nothing passes through a server of ours. Background App Refresh is used only to keep the next days' alerts and the prayer countdown scheduled.
Purchases and ratings
Extra mosque designs and the Supporter purchase are one-time in-app purchases handled by Apple through the App Store. Apple tells the app which designs you own; we never see your name, payment card or Apple ID. Now and then the app may show Apple's standard "Rate this app" prompt; your rating goes to Apple.
Measuring our ads (Meta)
We advertise Five Skies on Facebook and Instagram. To learn which ads work, the app includes Meta's software development kit (the Meta SDK, also called the Facebook SDK). It sends Meta:
- app events: that the app was installed, that it was opened, and in-app purchases (which item, price and currency, never your payment details);
- device details: such as device model, iOS version, language, time zone and app version, an identifier the SDK creates for this install, and your IP address, which every internet request carries.
It does not send your location, your prayer times or prayer log, your reminders, your Quran reading or anything you enter in the app. Meta uses this data to measure and improve the delivery of our ads, under Meta's Privacy Policy. We see only totals in Meta's ads reports, such as how many installs an ad brought, never individual people.
Tracking and advertising
The app shows no ads. It doesn't collect the advertising identifier (IDFA) and doesn't ask for permission to track you, so Meta can't link what it receives from the app to your activity in other companies' apps or websites. Installs from our ads are counted through Apple's privacy-preserving ad attribution (SKAdNetwork).
Children
The app is suitable for all ages and isn't directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your rights
We don't hold personal data about you on our side, so there is nothing for us to access, export or delete. You control everything on your device: change permissions in iOS Settings, clear marks inside the app, or delete the app to remove all of its data. For the app events the Meta SDK sends, you can use the tools in Meta's Privacy Center, or write to us and we'll help. If you live somewhere with privacy laws such as the GDPR or the CCPA, you can still write to us with any question and we'll answer.
Changes
If the app ever starts handling data differently, we'll update this page and the date above before the change ships, and describe it in the App Store release notes.
