Common questions

The prayer times don't match my mosque. Open Settings in the app and check the Calculation method and the Asr rule. Automatic picks the usual method for your country, but mosques differ: try Muslim World League, ISNA (North America), Egyptian Authority, Umm al-Qura (Makkah) or University of Karachi, and Hanafi or Standard for Asr. Also make sure location is allowed, so the times follow where you are. Far north or south in summer, where the sky never gets fully dark, Fajr and Isha use a high-latitude rule and may differ from local timetables. Your local mosque's timetable always comes first.

I'm not getting prayer alerts. In iOS Settings → Notifications → Five Skies, make sure notifications are allowed. Check that a Focus or Do Not Disturb isn't silencing them. In the app, open Reminders and check that the prayer's alert is on. Open the app now and then (or leave Background App Refresh on) so the next days' alerts stay scheduled.

Can I hear the adhan instead of a chime? Yes. In Reminders, turn on Adhan. The alert plays a short adhan as each prayer begins, and if the app is open it plays the full adhan. Fajr's includes "prayer is better than sleep". Tap the play button beside it to listen first.

The Qibla direction looks wrong. The Qibla is calculated exactly from your location; the arrow depends on your device's compass. Move away from metal, magnets and cases with magnetic clasps, and wave your phone in a figure eight to calibrate. In iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → System Services, keep Compass Calibration on.

The Hijri date is a day off. The app follows the Umm al-Qura calendar. Where the month starts with a local moon sighting, the date can differ by a day, especially at the start of Ramadan and the Eids.

How does Ramadan mode work? It turns on by itself for the month of Ramadan and off after Eid. Today then counts down to suhoor and iftar, and the Ramadan page has the month's timetable and lets you tick your fasts and Taraweeh.

How do I change the language? In the app, open Settings → Language, or go to iOS Settings → Apps → Five Skies → Language and pick one. The app is in 20 languages.

How do I add the widget or the prayer countdown? Touch and hold your Home Screen or Lock Screen, tap Edit or Customize, and add Next Prayer from Five Skies. The Live Countdown appears on your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island ten minutes before each prayer; turn it off in the app's Settings if you'd rather not have it.

My purchase didn't show up. Open Mosques from the menu and tap Restore Purchases. Purchases are tied to your Apple ID, so sign in with the one you bought with. If something is still missing, email us with your App Store receipt.

I want a refund. Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple ID, and choose the purchase.

How do I delete my data? Everything is kept on your device. You can unmark prayers in Prayer Tracker and delete reminders, or delete the app to remove all of its data. We hold nothing about you on our side.

How do I turn off the sounds? Tap the speaker button at the top of Today, or switch off Sounds of the Sky in Settings.
